The Neon Demon
Nicolas Winding Refn is one of the most interesting and controversial directors from the last 10 years. He is behind the direction of an absolute masterpiece like Drive, so the man is talented. Unfortunately, he’s becoming a very polarizing director on the audience and film criticism opinion: you love him, or you hate him. Well, I really like Nicolas Winding Refn, sometimes the violence is too graphic and unnecessarily detailed in my opinion and his films are a little pretentious for me. But Nicolas is a master behind the camera, the use of music, colours, silence and hypnotic sequences make me like his unique and incredible style. The Neon Demon is a film about how we are obsessed about the beauty and a whole of other different meanings that I’m not going to spoil you, but this film is not great for the plot, it is for the way it's made. I love this film, I found it powerful, intense, visually astonishing, great interpreted and the score is mind-blowing. My only problem is the last 25 minutes, there is nothing wrong with it, but I feel like it became too shocking (for those who finally watch it know what I’m referring) and some interesting reflections that the film has don't end up having all the depth that I would expect. I’m sure this film is going to be a horror classic with the pass of the years. Great film, recommended only for those who likes graphic narration and don’t care watching uncomfortable images.
