Sucker Punch

Zack Snyder (300, Watchman, Dawn of the Dead…) makes his most personal film with Sucker Punch and without a doubt the most difficult to understand. I’m going to be honest here, I watched this film 3 times and I never got the point. I read articles and watched videos explaining the film and still I haven’t comprehended the purpose, meaning or the movie itself. Nonetheless, I watched it 3 times, so I might like something about Sucker Punch no? Well, I don't know. Zack Snyder is very talented, I like him, but I always have had problems with his films, even so he has great ideas and he’s able to create incredible images or frames. For example the first 7 minutes of Sucker Punch are flawless as well as the action sequences. The dialogue scenes are incredible filmed (specially when Snyder plays with the mirrors). But like I said at the beginning of this review, I don’t understand this movie. When I read the explanations I found it too complicated or pretentious, when that happens it is a signal of bad telling and narration. There’s an interview on YouTube where Snyder explains that Sucker Punch was a story he has been thinking for many years, he has always wanted to do it. After reading and hearing all the explanations I think maybe the movie only has meaning inside Snyder’s brain. Even so I like Sucker Punch because it’s really entertaining, interesting and visually great, despite my lack of connection with the film I’m probably going to watch it again. Punctuation: 2/5
