Prometheus

Some people and critics hated this film for the lack of action, adventures and aliens. It is for that reason that Prometheus is the perfect example of why in today movies, the directors might not be able to have success making an original and non-action film about aliens or monsters. What people didn’t understand it 2012 was that this film is not about that, it is something more. Ridley Scott returned to the universe of Alien with Prometheus trying to explain the origins of the alien creatures called Xenomorph. The film is visually astonishing from the beginning till the end, the photography, music, production design, sets, make-up… everything looks gorgeous. The cast is very talented, and they all make a great job. The problem with the film is that people went to watch an action film (probably due to the trailer), the expectations were to saw a lot of aliens, creatures, explosions and very intense action, and Prometheus is much better than that, in my opinion it is very close to a masterpiece. The story explores why the aliens were created, who create us, how our technology could destroy us, before the creation there must be destruction?... this review it’s going to contain some spoilers, so if you want to watch it, stop reading right here, go and see it. I’m going to explain the movie for those who think this film is terrible because they might have misunderstood. The explorers at the beginning of the film found in different old paintings from different cultures the coordinates of a solar system in space. Later they found that system and discovered it contained a moon with the conditions of having life. They think that moon is the answer to the next question: Who created us? The explorers named engineers the aliens who they think created us. When they arrived at the planet, they found an immense structure and one dead body from one of the engineers. Later they compared the DNA from the engineer and ours, which turned out to match, that meant we came from them, we are the creation from another civilization, we came from the engineers. Later they discovered the engineers created the aliens to destroy human specie and that's my favourite part. The engineer created the aliens to exterminate us. Eventually their own creation killed them, later the humans created the robots with AI (David) which ended up aspiring to be more than his own creation (us). David modified genetically the alien to destroy the rest of the crew. The engineers want our extinction because we thought we could be like gods, like them, and somehow it is what’s happening with David, our creation wants to be better, and that's the evolution, before creation there must be destruction. Also, the idea of the next step as human evolution being artificial I think is very interesting. The film explains it in a unique way and with huge scenes. It’s not a perfect film, there are some impossible behaviour twists from some characters and the idea of having Guy Pearce old digitalized instead of a good make-up ended being terrible because it doesn’t look real.
