Da 5 Bloods

Da 5 Bloods: Hermanos de armas (2020) - Filmaffinity

Spike Lee does probably one of the most original war films from the last 30 years. It is the first Spike Lee collaboration with Netflix where he said in many interviews that he has had 100% creative liberty. I respect Lee's film, there is always original with powerful messages (racism in North America being the most notorious). Unfortunately, in my opinion, this film has the best and the worst from Spike’s. Let’s start with the positives: the plot is very interesting as well as their morals like the avarice, the consequences of being in war from the point of view of the soldiers and the future generations, and of course his criticism of racism. Another great point is the fusion of real images, events, and people mixed with the film and finally, the cast does a great job. On the other hand, the weak points are the exaggerated exposition of some characters about racism (I prefer to watch more artistically not as a speaking), script holes that are forced so that the movie has action (it doesn’t add anything, only 1 hour more) and the music (original from the movie). When the movie tries to be an action film or a political speech it bored me a little and considering that is a 2 hour and 30 min movie …

To sum up, Da 5 Bloods is a good film but I feel like with some changes from the plot it would be a much better movie.
