Wildlife
Wildlife is a 2018 American drama film directed and co-produced by Paul Dano (in his directorial debut), starring Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal. The screenplay is also written by Dano. The biggest point in favor of this film is the direction behind the camera and the performances. This film looks incredible and beautiful, sometimes it looks more like a picture than a movie. Also, the colors, photography, and production design are great, technically the film is impressive. The cast makes a great job, especially Jake Gyllenhaal, which shouldn’t be a surprise. The main problem of this film is the screenplay and the lack of emotion, it feels like a 3-hour movie or more, and that is due to repeated scenes, poor dialog but mainly for not explaining enough the motivations of the characters and spending time on things which might not be as compelling or appealing for spectators. All these weaknesses sum up to a tedious and uninteresting story filmed with a great direction without emotion. I feel like with a few changes this movie would have the potential to be an excellent one. Punctuation: 1/5 |
