The Thin Red Line

| I'm not a great fan from Terrence Malick, I always say: art is a matter of connections, not of reasons. Unfortunately, I don't connect with Malick, that doesn't mean that he is a bad director for me, hell no! I love how he uses the camera, maybe he's my favorite director when we talk about filming, and I have always found his movies ambitious. At the same time, I don't connect with him because I always have found him overrated and pretentious. This film is good and in my opinion, it is the best of Malick. The cast is really good, the cinematography, the music from Hans Zimmer and all the technical aspects are perfect. Regrettably, I got bored and found all the ethical messages and intentions are pretentious in how there were made. While I was watching it, I felt all the meanings with nature, the relation that we have with it, what makes us human and these philosophical questions without justification, there's not enough "stuff" to make all these questions. Imagine I make a reboot of Rambo, and I put images of animals eating each other in the middle of the movie and later I say the purpose was to explain that we are animals because humans are trying to kill each other to survive as the animals do. If I tell you something like this, you might find it pretentious and that's how I felt this movie. Maybe I'm not the most qualified to talk about this film due to my disconnections with Malick. Even so, it's a good film, a different view of the war and with a few magic moments. Punctuation: 3/5 |
